How old do you think print is?

It was the Egyptians who developed papyrus as something to write on 3,000 BC. The Chinese who pioneered papermaking around 100 AD. And Gutenberg who invented the printing press, in the 1400’s. So, people have been finding new and better ways to put words and images onto physical things for, erm, hang on, erm, let’s say a very long time.

Now we haven’t been around quite that long. Not even Dave! But we do like to say ‘we invent print every day.’

We’ve been talking quite a lot lately about all the tech helping us do that. Automation. Smarter production processes. Online workflow systems. Imperium, our stock control and brand management platform. New mapping and targeting tools for our dedicated door drop arm DoorDrops4U.

We’re continuously embedding technology more deeply into how we work because it helps make what we offer faster, smarter, better, more efficient and easier for you.

But we don’t want anyone to lose sight of the fact that we’re still printers.

And at the absolute centre of everything we do is producing the very best quality print, in the most sustainable, appropriate and cost-effective way for the job. That means responsibly sourced FSC® paper, vegetable-based inks, recycled plates and more within our carbon-neutral, fossil-fuel-free home. All governed by ISO9001, ISO14001 & ISO27001 accreditations.

We invent print in all kinds of ways.

Print isn’t simply print. It’s Litho. Digital. Large format. But its not a question of one being better than another. It’s about which is best for what you’re trying to achieve.

And we’ll always advice you on what’s right for each job.

But shall we have a quick run through? Go on then.

Litho: when high quality and high quantities come together.

Litho printing really comes into its own when you need larger quantities. Think brochures, magazines, reports, leaflets, folders, door drops & direct mail and plenty more.

There are set up costs with litho jobs, we won’t pretend there aren’t. But once the press is ready, litho efficiently laps up volume, making larger print runs cost-effective, all whilst delivering consistently high-quality results.

It also opens up loads of creative possibilities, particularly if you want specialist paper stocks, metallic inks, spot colours or gorgeous finishes that add that extra bit of oomph to your print, and that ‘ooh, feel that’ moment when someone picks it up.

So if you need 20,000 brochures rather than 200, want precise colour consistency across a long run, or you’re creating something where the impact and physical quality of the finished piece really matters, litho is your answer.

Digital: flexible, fast and personal.

Need fewer copies? Need them quickly? Or need every copy to be personalised or even slightly different?

Say hello to digital.

Digital printing removes some of the set-up involved in litho, making it spot on for shorter runs and quick turnarounds.

It also lets you use variable data to personalise text or graphics. So if you want to print a relatively small run of the same leaflet or brochure, but want to change some copy or even some images to make each piece of print talk directly to an individual rather than everyone, you can!

And digital certainly doesn’t have to mean basic. We call our Xerox Iridesse the magic maker because it can add gold, silver, metallic, white, clear and even fluorescent pink, giving you plenty of scope to create something a little bit special.

From short-run brochures and reports to personalised direct mail with variable QR codes, postcards, newsletters, inserts and point-of-sale material, digital gives you an enormous amount of flexibility.

Large Format: when you need to think bigger.

There are times when an A4 brochure or an A3 poster isn’t going to do the job for you. And you need something more. That’s when you need large format.

Large format is about getting your brand seen across bigger spaces: think exhibitions, events, retail environments, offices. Anywhere you need to make a large scale impact.

We’re talking signage, exhibition graphics, pull-up banners, pop-up displays, vinyls, in-store POS, A-boards, wallpaper, window graphics and full office manifestation or retail installations. And it can be produced across an ever-growing range of materials, so there’s plenty of room to get creative.

Just ask us. The important bit is that we can help you work out what will actually work for the space, application, lifespan and budget involved. A huge sign is only useful if it’s the right huge sign!

Printing is the beginning. Finishing adds more.

Of course, getting ink onto paper, board or something considerably bigger is only one part of the job.

Finishing can totally change how a piece feels and the impact it delivers. Foiling, embossing, debossing, lamination, spot varnishes, die-cutting, folding, creasing, binding are all details that can turn something well printed into something people really notice. And with on-demand digital die-cutting, even intricate shapes can be produced quickly without the cost and time involved in creating a traditional physical die.

Anything else? Branded merchandise perhaps?

Oh yep, that’s right. If you want to get your logo on something that isn’t really print at all, there’s KNP Merchandise too. Think it, we can brand it. From branded workwear and bags to bottles, mugs, notebooks, power banks, stationery, plenty of tech products and oodles more.

Litho, digital and large format printing – you don’t need to know what you need.

That might sound like an odd thing for us to say. But it’s not.

You don’t need to get in touch with us knowing whether your print job should be litho or digital, which paper stock it needs, what finish will work best or whether producing everything in one go and storing it will save you money.

That’s our job.

Let us know what you’re trying to achieve, who it’s for, how many you need, when you need it, where it needs to go and what sort of budget you’re working with. Then we’ll sit down with you (so to speak, although we’ll happily pop over to see you) and help determine the smartest way of making it happen.

Technology will keep changing. Our capabilities will keep growing. And we’ll undoubtedly introduce better, smarter and even more sustainable ways of doing things. Because that’s KNP.

But underneath it all, we’re still the same business that we’ve always been: printers who care about producing the right job, in the right way, for the people we work with.

We invent print every day.

What can we invent for you? Drop us an email or give us a call and lets start talking.
